How to Boost Traffic to Your Blog

June 27th, 2009

At one point in your life as a blogger, you’ll realize that your site could do with a little more traffic than it usually gets.  After all, getting a lot of traffic is important if you want to make money blogging.  The good news here is that you don’t need to be familiar with complex, highly technical SEO methods just to improve your site’s stats.  Instead, all you need is to make a few tweaks to your blogging strategy to achieve some very noticeable results.  Here’s a list of the best methods that will help you give your site’s traffic an extra push:

1.  Get out there and socialize!

If you want your blog to be visited by other people, you’ll have to do a lot of house-calls yourself – to other blogs, that is.  Shoot for blogs that concentrate on the same niche as yours, since the people who are already visiting that site are likely to be interested in what you have to say about their favorite topic, too.  Drop a well-composed comment that’s relevant to the post you’ve chosen, and don’t forget to leave a link back to your site’s URL at the bottom of your comment.

You can also link to other sites as a means of getting more traffic.  More often than not, these blogs will link back to you (unless they’re the larger, more successful blogs), therefore opening up your site to their own visitors and network.

Forum boards are also a good venue to plug your site in subtle ways.  Participate actively in discussions that you have some good knowledge of, and make sure that your contributions are informative and helpful.  Don’t forget to leave a link to your site in one of your messages or in your signature!

2.  Fan out your work to article directories:

Article directories are a great way to spread your work, cement your credibility through your articles, and get backlinks from other sites.  Places like eZine Articles and Buzzle are a great place to send your articles to, since they have a lot of users and your articles – which should come with a link to your blog — are sure to find an audience there.  Take note, however, that these services exact some very strict rules: there’s always a minimum word count for submissions, and some topics are just taboo.

3.   Write better posts
There’s no way around this:  when it comes to gaining significantly more site traffic, the best method is still to create the best content you can come up with.  Nothing’s a better crowd-drawer than a blog post that’s well-written, filled to the brim with useful information, and completely relevant to the needs of your readers and target market.

Remember, profitable blogging isn’t just about flirting with search engine spiders and bookmarking like a fiend.  Instead, to make money blogging, you have to show your visitors that your site is worth a visit, that it has more to offer than general knowledge and a nice blog design.  Once your readers find that your blog aims to offer them nothing but first-rate information that works to their benefit, your traffic will take care of itself, expanding naturally on account of your credibility.

Top 8 Ways to Dominate Search Engines with Search Engine Optimisation

April 21st, 2009

It is very important to know how to improve your Google rank, usingsearch engine optimization and is a vital part of being successful with your websites. Most people use search engines to find what they’re looking for, and Google is far and away the market leading search engine.  If you want people to find your pages on the web, you must use search engine optimization if you want to get high search engine rankings.  These 8 pointers will help you get there.

Develop good content!
As the saying goes, content is king.  The importance of having high quality, relevant content that is updated regularly cannot be understated.  If you have a quality website, it makes all the other steps easier.

Write articles
Submitting articles has become one of the most popular methods to drive traffic to your website.  Not only do the articles generate traffic, they provide non-reciprocal links, which are the most valuable kind of links according to Google’s ranking system. Make sure the content is relevant to your site, and that the quality of writing is as high as what is on the website; these articles are your best advertisement for what your site has to offer.

Use smart, targeted keywords
Keywords are the words and phrases that people type into a search engine to find what they’re looking for. The keywords you choose will define your site and who see it.  Know your niche and who you want to reach.  Research your target audience, research your competitors, both successful and unsuccessful and learn both from their successes and mistakes. You can also maximize your keywords by optimizing different pages within your website to different keyword phrases.

Use directories
Directories are a fast and easy way to get non-reciprocal links. There are hundreds of directories that you can submit your URL to for free.  It is time-consuming, but this search engine optimization tool is worth it for the traffic it builds and how it will improve your Google rank.  Most directories are edited and maintained, and your posting must be approved.  While the sheer number of directories may seem daunting, try applying to 5 per day – you’ll have over 1500 listings after a year.

Don’t forget your meta tags and HTML code
While optimizing your website content for the proper keyword density is an obvious choice, don’t forget about the text that you don’t see, but Google does. Good search engine optimization includes adjusting all of your meta tags and HTML code to also reflect your chosen keywords. If you have a website about dog breeds, why label a picture “photo 1” when you can label it “purebred Yorkshire Terrier at play”. These are a great way to up your keyword density without making the content sound unnatural.

Use PPC advertising
Pay-per-click advertising is not as cheap as it used to be, with popularity of the search engine optimization tool driving prices up, but it can still be a valuable and cost-effective method of improving your ranking when used properly.

Get a site map
An easy way to make the most of your search engine optimization is to ad a site map to your website. You can either have an actual webpage that can be used by both your viewers and Google, or you can also use an XML file, which, while not visible to the public, will also Google to easily spider your site. Google.com offers free tools and scripts to help you easily build a site map.

The last point, number 8 is the most important: TAKE ACTION.
All the reading in the world, all the research in the world means nothing if we do not take action; massive concerted action using a plan that includes all of the other 7 points.

Almost 3 years ago I took action, I spent my few dollars of earnings from my online ‘business’ and joined PortalFeeder. Now, I have a different life, plenty of money, a lifestyle I enjoy and some of the ‘toys’ that I love. I work as a mentor with Portalfeeder members, helping members to attain their own goals. Please, come take action and see just what you and PortalFeeder can do with your online business!

How To Increase Your Web Site Traffic

March 8th, 2009

free web site traffic

Free web site traffic is there for the taking, and there are many ways to achieve that goal. To increase traffic, a webmaster must know how to lure visitors to a site. However, there are different ways — that aren’t free — to increase site traffic, and these can be good options if you haven’t achieved your minimum expectations.

If free web site traffic is letting you down, you can always simply buy traffic. It’s an amazing thing — to think that people have actually built businesses around getting traffic to other people’s web sites — but businesses that offer just that service are popping up all over the place. Just think of it like this: Marketing experts must have seemed like strange beasts to the first business owners who encountered them, but they make their clients millions of dollars annually — on business they would not have otherwise enjoyed.

People who buy traffic, as opposed to depending entirely on free web site traffic, are often people who have third-party ads on their sites. If they make their money at least partly by ad clicks, then this endeavor may be a good deal — not to mention that it ups their page view counts. Whether you think this is appropriate for your particular site is up to you, but you can buy traffic if you so desire.

Traffic Builder is a web-based software package that you can use to automate various aspects of increasing free web site traffic. This service will: scan your pages, automatically submit your sites to various search engines, monitor your keywords on a daily basis and do a lot of work that you would otherwise have to carry out yourself.

Even if you take this route for attracting free web site traffic, and even if you decide to buy traffic on top of that — you must not forget to go out there and hustle your site to viewers through link and banner exchanges. Research the best methods of letting people know your site exists, as well. For instance, it is much better to embed your links naturally throughout the text than to simply have nothing but a list of links. But most importantly, you cannot forget the # 1 rule for increasing web site traffic: offer great content. It will do absolutely no good to get web site traffic — if you can’t keep that web site traffic on your site, where it belongs.

Telling Good Traffic From Bad

January 13th, 2009

Know How to Increase Good Website Traffic

Serious website owners are looking for ways to increase the traffic to their sites on a continuous basis. This intense desire to generate more clicks makes virtually any online entrepreneur easy prey to many of the traffic schemes and scams that pervade the Internet.

They advertise that their product is sure to produce high traffic volume and generate what sounds like easy money, with the purpose of getting people to purchase their product. The problem is that high volume doesn’t necessarily translate into a high sales rate.

Good traffic comes from people clicking links on topics targeted to their interests and getting directed to a website with information they want and expect as a result of clicking the link. The bottom line is, that the best and most dependable sources of targeted traffic will come from links that people click.

Being able to determine which clicks actually result in sales is vital. To track conversions from click to sales, depending on the type of shopping cart software you are using, you can then create a custom order confirmation page - i.e. the page that is displayed once the transaction is complete.

If you are using a payment processing service such as PayPal, tracking your sell conversions will be easy to do.

It’s well known that each search engine and each web site has a particular type of user (age, interests etc.), and they all have different interest that will lead them to purchase. All of these things are important for you to know and increase website traffic, so that your advertising dollars will be spent in the most advantageous places.

By following these tips and advice you should be able to increase the traffic to your website dramatically.
