Understanding the Value of Site and Page Rank

April 21st, 2009

When some people talk about obtaining a high ranking in the search engines they are often puzzled about what it means to have a high rank verses having one keyword search term ranking high in the search results. The reality is that ranking well for a keyword search term may not ever send a single person to their site.

So, what exactly is a search engine ranking and how can it benefit your Internet business?

When someone uses a search engine like Google, they type in specific keyword search terms in order to find websites that contain information related to their keyword search. The results of that keyword search is a listing of websites that contain related content of the keyword searched.

Many times this is where the confusion starts. If a site appears in the top of these results some might think this means their site has a high rank. However, obtaining a high position does not mean the site is ranking well. It simply means it ranked well for a single search term.

I personally like to refer to each of these results as page positions because a few years back Google introduced a system that gives each page of every website a page rank. And it can become confusing to talk about achieving a high page rank when it can refer to either a high page position or a high Google PR (page rank).

It may be more helpful to think of ranking in a more general sense. A site that ranks well will have many traffic generating keyword search terms that obtain a high page position in the search results

Let’s get back to obtaining a high page position in the search results. Many SEO savvy marketers will gain new clients that want to obtain a higher page position in the search results by promising them a “high rank”. Included in this promise is offering to help their website rank well for search terms that include the name of their City and State. The price for this service can be anywhere from $60.00 a month to thousands of dollars a month.

If your site ranks well due to 20 keyword search terms, you need to know the value of those keyword search terms. What a business owner needs to understand is that obtaining a high page position for any keyword search term is only beneficial if it is a keyword term or phrase that their clients are using to find their type of business.

How many people in San Francisco use the keyword search term, “Sam’s pest control, San Francisco, CA”? Most likely only people who already know about Sam’s pest control.

However, if someone lives in San Francisco and is looking for this type of service they are more likely to use the keyword search term, “Pest control S.F. or San Francisco pest control”. Now you can see the difference between a valuable keyword search term and a worthless one.

The fact is any SEO savvy person can help your site rank well for a whole keyword search terms that add little or no value to your site simply by adding the name of your business and the city and state to the keyword phrase. This little trick is something that can be done one time to your site with about 5 minutes spent off your site. I’ve seem many clients faces turn very red in anger after they understand just how much money they’ve wasted paying for SEO services like this.

The more you understand the basics of search engine optimization Knowing what SEO is and how it can help your search engine rankins will help you understand how to select a good SEO service.

How To Generate 10-50 Leads Daily With Social Networks Like Twitter

I consider this article to be a follow up on the Twitter Marketing Made Easy guide on Squidoo. If you haven’t read it yet, I advise you to visit Squidoo and cross it off your ‘Twitter to do’ list.

This post will be dedicated to helping you guys promote your business using Twitter by getting more followers, building better relationships and maybe even automating the whole thing for some of you.

But first, I want to recap very briefly on what I have covered in the Twitter Marketing Made Easy guide on Squidoo

1.    Twitter is the fastest growing social network on the planet
2.    The Twitter Effect. You follow me, I’ll follow you
3.    TweetMyBlog plugin.
4.    TweetLater. Twitter Automation Service.
5.    Integrating your Twitter into your Facebook account.
6.    TweetDeck. Twitter desktop client.
7.    Twitwall. When 140 characters are not enough.
8.    FriendorFollow. Find out who isn’t following you back on Twitter

Now, after we have covered the tools I have already shared with you here, I would like to turn your attention to the top right corner of my blog. Can you see the Twitter Counter button? Would you be interested in one? Here you go:

Click Here to Download the Twitter Counter PlugIn

Twitter Remote

This is a real cool plugin you can install onto your website/blog in order to display which Twitter followers have visited your website/blog. I believe it to be a great tool to help you develop stronger relationships with your Twitter friends. Now you have something to talk about :).

The Twitter Remote widget comes with the Twitter Counter plugin package.

Now, the plugin I am very excited about!

Today, as I was browsing the internet, and more precisely: reading a blog post, I have noticed something I knew I must have it installed on www.IgorHelpsYouSucceed.com. The ReTweet plugin. The plugin which integrates a cute, little button at the bottom of your posts titled ‘ReTweet’. Now, when someone clicks on it, the automatic script ReTweets your post via this person’s Twitter account. As soon as I saw this button, I realised I had to have it on my blog. The potential viral power of this thing is practically unlimited! And that is one of the reasons I love Twitter so damn much!

You can… no, you SHOULD! download the ReTweet plugin here

As usual,

Putting Your Web Site online

April 16th, 2009

You need a server to put your web site on the internet. Sometimes, owning and maintaining a web server can cost money and it requires someone who knows what they are doing to maintain the server and the web-site.

A web hosting can do this for you. They provide equipment and other technical programs that are required to build a customer a web-site. These web hosting companies charge a monthly fee for the service of storing your web site and allowing your web site to be seen on the internet. Within that fee, it allows website visitor traffic to flow through their servers so people can view your site on the internet.

The physical web server does not reside at the consumers home or business which means that the web host services are designated as outsourced services. This means that the web hosting organization that you choose has the responsibility to maintain your site structure, files and web pages.

Many web hosts provide excellent services that really assist individuals and business owners. All the weight of maintaining the host servers and application fall on the hosting company and not the individual and as a business owner, this is great because there are so many technical routines that you have to do daily to maintain a server.

When you pick a web host to handle your internet server needs, you achieve the following:

You streamline your internet costs getting the maximum from your hosting provider;

Work with knowledgeable technicians;

and pass IT services control functions to the host so you won’t have to worry about maintaining servers and other equipment.

You can self publish your site and use the web host to handle the technical aspects of server management. The host that you choose will give you the capability to load your own site to the server for updates and revisions to your web page. Web hosting doesn’t include developing your site (unless they have a special development program) or the development of certain customized programs. You can develop the programs (web-site or server side code) or have someone do it for you.

Web hosting is offered in multiple formats based on cost and infrastructure.

Article Marketing For Beginners

April 10th, 2009

If you’re like me, you started your online business not having a clue about the benefits of article marketing. We put up our website with the desire to somehow get traffic, but had no idea how to go about it.

This is a common problem facing many new and established online businesses needing to earn cash. The fact is you need traffic to your website or blog no matter what it is you’re trying to promote. A good place to start is searching Google for keywords like “traffic generation” or “article marketing” to get some really sound advice on how to drive traffic to your Website.

Article marketing is cheap, actually free mostly, and a very effective way of promoting your services and products on the Internet. It takes little time to put together an article if you are inexperienced but here are some tips to write good articles in a short amount of time.

First, you will need to do a little search of the product or service you’re trying to promote. Websites like ezine articles is a good place to start. Then, after reading several articles and websites over the subject, put those articles into your own words. You’ll find that the more you do this, the better and quicker you’ll be.

Now, take the title you found when you did a key word search and create a new title. Now that you have some points of interest wrote down, go ahead and start writin your article using your own words. You should know your product or service better than anyone, so be very descriptive.

You can post your articles on many sites, and here are four of the better ones for getting good traffic generated to your site. They are articledashboard.com, goarticles.com, ezinearticles.com, articlesbase.com. You can also use programs to send out your article to thousands of directories at once.

Every article your write should have links back to your site. This will help you climb up through the search engine rankings, bringing you more and more traffic as your site gets more popular. The article title is really important to searches so make sure you put the correct keywords in the title and use catchy phrases so people’s eyes are drawn to it and will then select it. Good simple things like “3 Steps to A Better Body”, or “How to Write an eBook”

The quicker you get started with article marketing, the quicker you’ll see results. Some people have great results only writing and sumbitting a couple articles per week. Some do more for faster results. It’s up to you how much or how little you write, but the more you do, the more you’ll benefit from article marketing.

Images and SEO

March 5th, 2009

Most websites rely heavily on images to explain something to the site’s visitor or to give the page a more visually appealing look. Here is an example of the latter, it can be some kind of map or a photo of the owner of the site, it is more easily to explain somthing to the visitor than using text.

Search engines can’t “read” images for the moment. The phrase “An image is worth a thousand words” is not true in SEO-land.

One of the most commonly known Search Engine Optimization tips(seo tips) that go around has to do with the way you name and tag the images that you use on your site. It’s quite commonly accepted by most SEO experts that Google’s spidering bots will also take a look at the code you use in your image files, not only just look at the text on your blog to measure its worth.

I don’t suggest you to stop using images on your sites. Use them where needed, but keep in mind the consequences of using those images. They essentially hide content that is available for your users from search engines.

You can use the alt-attribute of your images to overcome this problem, it’s the easiest way. If the image is about your labrador dog, make the alt text “labrador dog”. When people are doing an image search, this can help search engines find your image.

If the image is also a link, please remember that don’t make the alt text “link to my labrador dog”, the < a > tag will have made that clear. I recommend you use some keywords in your image tags, it is still legitimate if you don’t stuff alt tags with all kinds of keywords.

Using alt tags this way can help people who are vision-impaired. As they can’t see the page, just like search engines, they have to rely on the text that’s on your page. For many sites, it wouldn’t hurt to think more about this.

Free Ads Can Bring Traffic and Sales

February 20th, 2009

Many webmasters will tell you that the days of free advertising on the Internet are long gone. While it’s probably true that paid advertising is more effective, free advertising is far from dead.

There are many forms of free advertising, such as forum signatures, viral ebooks, and article marketing, which is indeed proof that free advertising is not dead. In this article however, we will just be looking at a simple and easy method, that of using free ads forums and classified advertising sites.

When it comes to placing free ads, it’s largely just a numbers game. The more ads you have circulating, the better the results. And there are tons of sites where you can place ads. The great thing about free advertising sites is that most will allow you to post your ads over and over. A lot of free ads forums make so you move your ad to the top with just a quick reply.

It’s easy to find sites to post your free ads. You can use Google or basically any search engine to do searches for terms such as free ads, free classifieds, free advertising forums, etc.

In order for free advertising to work, you have to keep doing it consistently. If you track your results, you’ll quickly learn which sites and what times are the most effective for placing ads. Knowing the best places to post your ads makes things a lot easier and saves time as well.

In the end, your offer will largely affect your success when it comes to free advertising campaigns. Advertising something that has wide appeal and is also free, will likely yield the best results. Offering something that would appeal to other advertisers and webmasters is a good thing, because those are the people that spend the most time at free ad sites. If you are offering something related to advertising, particularly free advertising, your ad will very likely be successful.

While posting free ads may not be the most effective traffic generator, it can certainly be effective enough to start pulling in some good targeted traffic, especially if you make the effort to do it on a consistent basis. And combining this method with other forms of free advertising, such as using forum signatures, social bookmarks, submitting articles, etc., it is quite possible to get a brand new or unnoticed site off ground in just a few short months.

Which Web Hosting Provider Is Best For You?

February 11th, 2009

If you want to become an internet business entrepreneur then your first step will be to secure a website. The hosting provider that you choose for your website will prove to have a great influence on the success of your business. When your goals are to create a successful online business, choosing a reliable web host directory is imperative. You will have to be for certain that your hosting company puts customer service at the top of the priority list.

As you may already be aware, the speed of server, and up to date technology are essential features in securing the reliability of your sites uptime. Choosing the right web hosting company the first time around will keep you from having to make a change later on in the game. Hopping from one web hosting provider to the next one during your busiest time of your site’s life may cause you to lose huge revenue. In addition to the loss of revenue, the inconvenience that comes with web host issues is enough to drive you crazy. That is why, the first time that you’re into this business, you have to make sure that the web hosting provider you provide for yourself and for your business is the first and last and the most reliable provider in the land that can cater to your every needs. Again, changing from one provider to another will make you lose everything.

The best Internet hosting providers will put their main focus on providing you good service and the most satisfying, including financial aspects. The expenses will always be a factor in choosing your web host, because no one knows your own money matter better than you. The cost of providing hosting services has become so affordable that you will no longer have to settle for cheap instead of quality. Although cheap may save you some money, it may also cause you to lose a lot of money also. That is why, you have to put everything in balance- inexpensive yet quality-wise in terms of getting things done and the services they are rendering.

When you make the decision to put service first in choosing the best of all web hosting providers, there are some features that you must check for. One important customer service feature is 24/7 customer support. If you can’t get in touch with your hosting provider at any time, you should consider pushing the panic button. Other valuable customer service features should include: money back guarantee, unlimited email and a big storage space, to name a few.

Of course, looking for the best provider can also be a tedious task. The only way that you can opt for the best is go find a review site wherein you will find a list of web hosting companies being featured and rated or you can go to a review site that describes a single and specific web hosting provider in a personal point of vview.

Why Free Website Traffic Is Your Preferable Option

January 31st, 2009

traffic promotion

With all the ways available to you of getting more website traffic, the best kind is free website traffic. There is no reason for you to let a company strong-arm you into buying their -traffic promotion services- and turn free website traffic into a costly venture. Their services are great if you would truly be better off with their services. But more often than not, you don’t need an SEO expert to get anywhere online. That’s the beauty of the Internet-anyone can use it. Anyone can generate their own free website traffic.

The people who generally opt out of using free website traffic are people who want many clicks on third-party ads. If that is your situation, and you are making most of your money from those clicks, it is a viable option. You have to weigh what you make with those clicks, versus what you are paying to get them. You also have to ask yourself if this is the kind of traffic promotion you want to do. Paying for traffic won’t necessarily garner fans for your site.

What will garner fans and drive up website traffic are blogs. Google Blog Search makes having a blog almost a necessity these days. You should keep it simple and easy — but also keep it honest. The blog is a little advertisement to draw people looking for a particular thing. It gives them a little taste of what the main website has to offer and acts as a people-net. For instance: if you sell lamps, you can have a blog describing the different kinds of lamps you have for sale, which will whet the appetite of someone searching for lamps. They will then likely click on your main site, where the real goodies are. This is one of the greatest ways to get free website traffic.

Another way to get free website traffic is to use search engine optimization. In order to do this, you’ll need some idea of how search engines work. You don’t have to be an expert — or hire one, either — if you don’t mind experimenting a little. Don’t let professional traffic promotion sites tell you otherwise. Don’t think of the internet is an ocean swimming with -search engine optimizing sharks- looking to gobble up all your hopes of more website traffic. Rather, it is a multi-layered ecosystem where different people, at different skill levels, can all thrive if they just learn how to get around. Of course, the option to hire someone is always open to you.

One of the most important things about getting free website traffic is to have a good, functional site. Make your site simple, user-friendly and keep it focused on what you have to offer. If your site content is confusing, varied or bland, it can drive visitors away. The best traffic promotion in the world will amount to nothing if your site isn’t attractive to visitors. Long-term website traffic depends on how well sites deliver what they say they will. The sites that are easy to navigate and deliver what they say they will are the ones that withstand the test of time.

4 Easy and Proved Ways To Pull In Traffic to a New Website

January 13th, 2009

The reason so many people fail online so quickly is because they don’t get traffic, at least not enough of it.

The problem is, people end up spending money on advertising without making much (if any) profit back, or they simply spend so much time trying to get free traffic they burn themselves out.

Of course, once you’re successful you can pay someone to get you the traffic, but how do we get out of the never ending cycle of trying to get traffic without wasting time and money?

Well, I am going to start with the fundamental tasks that you should focus on first, then we’ll take it from there…

1. Directory submissions.

This can be achieved using automated submission software or can be done by hand. It’s a little dull but will result in a lot of backlinks to your website for better visibility in the search engines. This is pay off as you add more content and back links to your site.

2. Social bookmarking.

This is about submitting links to the major Web 2.0 social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Propeller and Reddit (to name just a few). The great thing is you can use software such as socialmarker.com to make the process far easier. You can also use inexpensive software to automate the whole process.

The benefit of social bookmarking your content is so that you gain back links from these authority sites (which is essential for being found in the search engines) but also, if you content is worthwhile and interesting, you increase the chances of your submission being passed around other readers really quickly, which can of course result in a lot of traffic to your website.

3. Back links.

Back links are the backbone of getting your pages high in the search engines. The more people link to your site naturally (i.e. without being paid or listing your site in some sort of link farm where the site linking to you is junk), then the better your rankings will be in the search engines. Not to mention the direct traffic that will come from the links from other sites as well.

4. Collaboration.

Most people want to be the “one person wonder” or the sole entrepreneur in their business, which is fine. However, don’t underestimate the sheer power of teaming up with other well established websites directly and offering your content, help or other services in exchange for some exposure to your own website.

The classic “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” effect comes into play here and trust me, it works like a charm providing you genuinely approach people to help them first.

There are of course, many other ways to start getting traffic to your site such as writing articles like this one, or getting involved with many of the Web 2.0 properties out there online today. The more social you become with your website at other people’s parties, the more people will come to your party when you come to tell them about it…just like real life isn’t it?

I’ve only scratched the surface of getting heavy volumes of traffic to your website. If you’d like to know more about using the new wave of traffic inducing methods to really get your business off the ground, then check this out: http://secretcode.jonathan-jenkins.net/

I Want Traffic, I Want Lots and Lots Of Traffic

January 13th, 2009

The number one question that most webmasters ask is “how do I get more web traffic?”. Let’s say you’re into Internet Marketing and you’ve got a new Web site. You’ll find tons of books for sale on the Internet about how to increase your Web Traffic in 30 days, etc. Don’t waste your money, most of that information is not worth perusing.

Web Traffic Optimization

Getting links from other authority websites that already have lots of web traffic is important. You’ve got to get links from other Web sites in order to get indexed by the search engines. Look at it this way, how are the search engine spiders going to find your site pages if there are no links pointing to them?

I understand, you built it and they haven’t come yet, and they won’t come unless you do certain things. It’s not easy, but you have to have patience. It may take several weeks for your site to be listed in Google, MSN, and Yahoo, which are the search engines you will get most of your web traffic from. During that time period you should be busy getting links to your site. Writing articles is an effective way of getting links.

Getting links can be automatic in some situations. You can sign up with a service like Linkmetro and get back links from other web sites automatically. I’ve found that you will get a lot of links from sites that have no pagerank when you go this route. Another, way is to install a linking script on your server so that webmasters can trade links with you without you having to do anything. I like this unique method better.

4 Web Traffic Tips

  1. Another neat way to get links is to join forums that you have an interest in and start participating.
  2. Don’t make the mistake of joining a group and try to sell something in your first post.
  3. Contribute to the forum and your sales posts will be approved later.
  4. Be sure to paste your URL in your signature so you’ll get a link back to your site.

After you have been getting links for a while you will want to start checking to see how many links you have. An super easy way to do this is to go to a major search engine and type in links:yourdomain-com. This works for most search engines and will alert you if your link activities are working.

Your largest obstacle to getting web traffic to your site is information overload. After you have been on the world wide web for a while your inbox on your email client will begin to fill up with offer after offer. You’ll be tempted to buy them all and what will happen is that you end up studying and reading all the time instead of working. Just remember this and you’ll do alright. Do the most important thing to get web traffic every day.
