Understanding the Value of Site and Page Rank

When some people talk about obtaining a high ranking in the search engines they are often puzzled about what it means to have a high rank verses having one keyword search term ranking high in the search results. The reality is that ranking well for a keyword search term may not ever send a single person to their site.
So, what exactly is a search engine ranking and how can it benefit your Internet business?
When someone uses a search engine like Google, they type in specific keyword search terms in order to find websites that contain information related to their keyword search.The results of that keyword search is a listing of websites that contain related content of the keyword searched.
Many times this is where the confusion starts. If a site appears in the top of these results some might think this means their site has a high rank. However, obtaining a high position does not mean the site is ranking well. It simply means it ranked well for a single search term.
I personally like to refer to each of these results as page positions because a few years back Google introduced a system that gives each page of every website a page rank. Many SEO savvy marketers will gain new clients that want to obtain a higher page position in the search results by promising them a “high rank”. Included in this promise is offering to help their website rank well for search terms that include the name of their City and State. The price for this service can be anywhere from $60.00 a month to thousands of dollars a month.
If your site ranks well due to 20 keyword search terms, you need to know the value of those keyword search terms. What a business owner needs to understand is that obtaining a high page position for any keyword search term is only beneficial if it is a keyword term or phrase that their clients are using to find their type of business.
How many people in San Francisco use the keyword search term, “Sam’s pest control, San Francisco, CA”? Most likely only people who already know about Sam’s pest control.
However, if someone lives in San Francisco and is looking for this type of service they are more likely to use the keyword search term, “Pest control S.F. or San Francisco pest control”. Now you can see the difference between a valuable keyword search term and a worthless one.

Now, when someone clicks on it, the automatic script ReTweets your post via this person’s Twitter account. As soon as I saw this button, I realised I had to have it on my blog. The potential viral power of this thing is practically unlimited! And that is one of the reasons I love Twitter so damn much!

If you’re like me, you started your online business not having a clue about the benefits of article marketing. We put up our website with the desire to somehow get traffic, but had no idea how to go about it.
This is a common problem facing many new and established online businesses needing to earn cash. The fact is you need traffic to your website or blog no matter what it is you’re trying to promote. The quicker you get started with article marketing, the quicker you’ll see results. Some people have great results only writing and sumbitting a couple articles per week. Some do more for faster results. It’s up to you how much or how little you write, but the more you do, the more you’ll benefit from article marketing.

Images and SEO

Most websites rely heavily on images to explain something to the site’s visitor or to give the page a more visually appealing look. Here is an example of the latter, it can be some kind of map or a photo of the owner of the site, it is more easily to explain somthing to the visitor than using text.
Search engines can’t “read” images for the moment. The phrase “An image is worth a thousand words” is not true in SEO-land.
One of the most commonly known Search Engine Optimization tips(seo tips) that go around has to do with the way you name and tag the images that you use on your site. It’s quite commonly accepted by most SEO experts that Google’s spidering bots will also take a look at the code you use in your image files, not only just look at the text on your blog to measure its worth.
I don’t suggest you to stop using images on your sites. Use them where needed, but keep in mind the consequences of using those images. They essentially hide content that is available for your users from search engines.
You can use the alt-attribute of your images to overcome this problem, it’s the easiest way. If the image is about your labrador dog, make the alt text “labrador dog”. When people are doing an image search, this can help search engines find your image.
If the image is also a link, please remember that don’t make the alt text “link to my labrador dog”, the < a > tag will have made that clear. I recommend you use some keywords in your image tags, it is still legitimate if you don’t stuff alt tags with all kinds of keywords.
Using alt tags this way can help people who are vision-impaired. As they can’t see the page, just like search engines, they have to rely on the text that’s on your page. For many sites, it wouldn’t hurt to think more about this.

4 Easy and Proved Ways To Pull In Traffic to a New Website

The reason so many people fail online so quickly is because they don’t get traffic, at least not enough of it.
The problem is, people end up spending money on advertising without making much (if any) profit back, or they simply spend so much time trying to get free traffic they burn themselves out.
Of course, once you’re successful you can pay someone to get you the traffic, but how do we get out of the never ending cycle of trying to get traffic without wasting time and money?

This is about submitting links to the major Web 2.0 social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Propeller and Reddit (to name just a few). The great thing is you can use software such as socialmarker.com to make the process far easier. You can also use inexpensive software to automate the whole process.
The benefit of social bookmarking your content is so that you gain back links from these authority sites (which is essential for being found in the search engines) but also, if you content is worthwhile and interesting, you increase the chances of your submission being passed around other readers really quickly, which can of course result in a lot of traffic to your website.

Back links are the backbone of getting your pages high in the search engines. The more people link to your site naturally (i.e. without being paid or listing your site in some sort of link farm where the site linking to you is junk), then the better your rankings will be in the search engines. Most people want to be the “one person wonder” or the sole entrepreneur in their business, which is fine. The number one question that most webmasters ask is “how do I get more web traffic?”. Let’s say you’re into Internet Marketing and you’ve got a new Web site. You’ll find tons of books for sale on the Internet about how to increase your Web Traffic in 30 days, etc. Don’t waste your money, most of that information is not worth perusing.

- If you don’t have your site optimized for your primary keyword you’re just wasting your time.
- Be sure to put your primary keyword for each page in the title tag.
